All-Star Game Fashions

Agree w/GB. All-Star festivities is now Barnum And Bailey gimmickry – Willy Mays would be pissed.

All Trades Have Been Entered

Great day yesterday. A lot of action.  A lot of alcohol. Can’t help but to think there is a direct ratio there.
.
All the trades have been entered into the system.  Please double-check your roster to confirm all looks good.  There are still a few teams out of position. Please correct that.  And please report any linkings that are not recorded
NOTE – The waiver wire will execute on FRIDAY @1PM THIS WEEK ONLY.
The Ball Four have NOT used their free move yet.  The move for Montgomery was a straight replacement.
Please continue to monitor your roster for linkings, stacking, etc.
**IMPORTANT –  See below for changes going into effect for 2025
1.  Once Ohtani’s current FBBA contract expires/terminates he will be considered a two-way player.  That is, the next time he is drafted you will be able to use him as a hitter OR a pitcher.  You will be allowed to move him from hitter to pitcher (or vice-versa) only if you have an open spot to do so.
2.    ANY player acquired by the use of your “free move”  will get released back into the free agent pool at the end of the season.
3.  Starting in 2025 the salary scale for minor leaguers will be $2 – $8 – $10.  This does not apply to  minor leaguers currently on your roster.
That’s it.  Good luck.  Let’s go Grimace, I mean Mets.
r

Waivers, new rule, miscellany

Now that things have slowed down a little I’ve been thinking about how we’re going to handle this new “free pick” rule.  Currently the system is configured to prevent players from being reserved/released unless they are inactive.  So you would not be able to bid on a free agent since you would not have an open spot. I don’t see any setup parameters available to help mitigate this.  I will reach out to the OnRoto guy and see if he has a suggestion. In the meantime if by chance you want to use your free pickup you’ll have to email me the bid.  We don’t have much choice right now.
Please be aware that if you drafted a player on the DL and have not replaced him yet, you have until 4/16 to do so or the spot will freeze. Same goes for minor leaguers who were MLB active on draft day. If you still have them in your minor league system on 4/16 they will be waived.  Assuming of course they stayed active on the MLB roster the whole time.
On a related note –  We still have to keep track of how long active players are reserved. There’s no way for the system to enforce this.  Same goes for players who are inactive in MLB but are active on a FBBA roster.
We still haven’t seen how the waiver claim system works.  Again I don’t see any players on waivers. Nonetheless if you are putting in a claim Tuesday, and are uncertain about the process, you can back up your claim with an email to me.

Winter Meeting Notes

Draft day is 4/1 at Nazareth in Brooklyn @ 1PM.  All are encouraged to arrive early.  Please bring an extension cord / power strip if you have.  We agreed we’d bring our own food.  The league will supply some basic snacks. And if some want to order out that’s a possibility.  Please come prepared to to pay the $225 fee. If you’d like to pay in full for the season that’s fine too. Paper checks/cash are preferred. We will have Zoom capability if necessary.
We agreed to impose a “luxury tax” on transactions made from Aug 15th till the end of the season.  A $5 fee will be assessed for acquiring and reserving players during that period.  We can quickly review/confirm this on draft day.
The summer meeting will be held on July 15th.  Location TBD.
Protected rosters are due on 3/25.
I made some more roster edits based on Eric’s findings: Rosters
And we had our first trade.  Cards trade Hoerner to Ball 4 for I. Anderson.

Not much in the way of business. We agreed to hold off on making any modifications to the rosters to accommodate DH. We will monitor the number of players who qualify only at DH and determine if any changes are necessary.
Looks like we’ll stick with the same draft format for next season.
Thanks to Kevin for the amazing trophy.
Trades:

2022 Summer Meeting Info – Update

For those of you who are not paid in full for the season please come ready to do so on Saturday. You can settle up with Cap.

Just to refresh your memory trade restrictions are lifted for the summer meeting. No asterisk restrictions and we allow “trade-back” trades.  This essentially means you can trade reserved players while retaining the active player. This exception is only for the meeting. We’ll set the expiration time when we’re together. It’s usually around 9-10PM.

Whoever has the trophy please bring it. Sox got gypped this year.

Lastly there will be an unveiling of a new league artifact.  That’s all I’ll say for now.

Also as mentioned we will need to shell out some money out of pocket to cover the costs.  We’ll be collecting $40 per head for the house.
There is parking there but you need a pass ($10). When we go down Friday we will find out about the passes. I’ll send a note out Friday night regarding the parking.
As for food we will have something – just not sure what yet. We would like to keep the cost of food down since we’re splurging a little for the house. There are plenty of places to get food around there. The Friday crew will check out the options.  Wouldn’t hurt to bring some snacks. And of course it’s BYOB.  We’ll pick up a case of water.
Business-wise we need to discuss the DH going into next season. There were some ideas about adding the DH position as a roster requirement.  I’d also like to talk a little about the stat services. I want to see how everyone feels about the bid/claim processes in Custom Stat, and in general talk about using (and paying for) both CBS and CS going forward.
That’s all I can think of right now. If something else comes up I’ll send an update. Should be fun.

First bids processed!

Bid Manager made it’s first run today.  I encourage everyone to check out the Bid Report using the Last Report function. Good job by Anthony and Alan christening the new process.
I’m not sure if the system keeps a running log of these reports or if they’re over-written daily. We’ll see. If they’re over-written I can always paste onto the blog for a permanent record.

Bid/Claim cheat sheet – BONUS

So as you saw by my typos I kind of rushed that email out.  Here’s a few bonus bullets. Plus I cleaned up the original a little.  Honestly, it’s worth  taking 3-4 minutes to read the Custom Stat doc. It does a good job explaining these things.

  • I should have mentioned that when making bids you can enter multiple bids in one submission. You can click on multiple free agents and they will appear in the bottom text boxes.  You can then enter separate bids for each.  Same goes for waiver claims.

Inline image87184a60-4f75-070c-24c2-fafe2d80a0d5@yahoo.com>”>

  • Contingency bids:  Occasionally someone will enter a transaction based on the success/failure of another.  For example: 1) Claim player X off waivers and reserve player Y.  2) If I don’t get player X bid $10 for player Z and reserve player Y. This could conceivably work if you put both transactions in the Bid  and Claim managers. But it would depend on which runs first. So until we get the hang of this I suggest posting these types of transactions to the Journal and then we’ll sort it out, or if it’s not any type of completive disadvantage you can contact me in advance and we’ll figure it out.
Again it’s a good idea to backup your transactions on the Journal. At least for a while.

My last two cents (maybe):  Learning the tools is easy. In a short time you’ll get the hang of it.  Knowing the status of your players and the free agents is what will make or break this. And for that you just need to check the transaction pages on MLB.com and CBSsports.com. Technically that’s what you should have been doing all along.  You can still send screen shots/links to the Blog or Journal to backup your transactions.

Bid Manager

Click the make Bid button to bid on a free agent.   On the left you’ll see your roster. Start by selecting the player you want to reserve/release. The player will appear in the top text box. Then select whether you are releasing or reserving.  Don’t use the DL option.

Then select a player from the free agent pool. That player will appear in the bottom text box. Enter the amount of your bid next to the free agent. If you want to start over click Reset.  Once you think it looks good click Submit

You can always go back and edit your claims. Click Edit Bids (below).  Although it’s called “Edit Bids” your only option is to delete bids.  Then if you want to change your bid click Add Bid and submit a new bid. NOTE: After deleting/adding a bid you must click Accept Changes for it to execute. If you’re unsure you can always go back into the Edits Bids screen and see what’s pending.
From this screen you can also click View Budgets to see remaining budgets for the whole league.

Claim Manager (Waiver Claims)

Claim Manager works very much like the Bid Manager except instead of seeing the free agent list on the right side you’ll the see the list of players on waivers. Plus there will be an extra option, Waive, in the drop-down list.  If the player you are replacing is active then he should be waived. If he’s inactive he can be released or reserved. Don’t use DL option.

Draft/Position Eligibility

A few points regarding players eligible for the draft and position eligibility.
Position Eligibility:

* I’m sure most of you have been checking out the player lists in the draft room.  Keep in mind that the players who appear in a list for a specific position (1b, 2b, MI, etc) are there because they made 20+ appearance at that position in 2021 (which is in line with our rule).  Our rule also states that players with less than 20 games at any one position qualify at the position they played most. Players in this category do not appear on a specific position list. These players are only listed in the U (utility) list. If you look up one of these players you’ll see they will have position eligibility for the position they played most. Edwin Rios is a good example. He qualifies at 1b because he played 10 games there, more than any other position, yet he’s only on the utility list.  I just want everyone to be aware of how to find these players.  Of course you can always use the search tool to find any player.
* Nelson Cruz is the exception to the above.  Since his primary position (DH) is not defined as an FBBA position CBS has him qualifying only as U. However he should qualify at 1b since he made one appearance there. That’s our rule. It may change next year but for now Cruz should qualify at 1b.  If you draft him specifically at 1b I will need to pause the draft and manually move him there.
Draft Eligibility:
In case you haven’t noticed the MLB rosters are still kind of a mess. Mainly due to the combination of the late start and the expanded rosters. We will use the MLB.com rosters as our official guide for the draft.  If you go to one of the MLB team pages you’ll see they do a very good job of tracking the rostered (40-man) and non-rostered players. Here’s an example Brewers Roster.  Non-rostered players are NOT eligible for the draft. Nor are players sent to the minors. Here’s a simple rule of thumb:
If the player is on an NL 40-man roster and is not officially in the minors, then he is eligible for the auction draft.  Otherwise he is ineligible.

Every player eligible for the auction draft is ineligible for the minor league draft.

That’s all for now.

Draft Day Info – PLS Read

As you know we’ll be drafting on-line at CBS.com Saturday. For those not attending in person please be ready to begin @ 1PM.
  • For those of you who have never used the CBS interface I strongly recommend doing a mock draft. Or even if you have, a refresher wouldn’t hurt.
  • Please double-check your keepers in CBS. The draft room is open (as per my previous email wait for the countdown to resume before going in). Also verify your nominating position is correct.
  • This is important.  CBS is configured to assign position eligibility based on 20 games played in 2021. This works well for us except in those cases where a player does not have 20 games at any position. Our rule states he would then be eligible ONLY at the position where he made the most appearances. There no way to configure that in CBS.  If you have any players on your roster who fall into this category make absolutely sure they qualify where you believe they should.  In addition as you prepare for the draft if you come across a draft-able player who does not have 20 games at a position you should make that known to the league beforehand so there are no surprises during the draft.  I did a little fishing in the draft pool but couldn’t find one. I’m sure there are some. In these cases I don’t think we’ll have any choice but to accept CBS’s eligibility.
  • As was the case in our Yahoo draft we may come across a player in the pool who is not currently on a MLB roster. If one of these players is nominated it will be rolled back. This is no different than when we had an auctioneer but of course the roll back was verbal. If you have any doubt about a particular player please ask before the draft.  I’d really like to avoid using the roll back feature.
  • Please come to the draft with your $225 payment.  Cap will be collecting
  • I’m attaching a copy of the minor league draft sheet. Please take a minute to validate your keepers and your position in the draft.  I also attached a copy the the master draft sheet we used in the old days.  Might be helpful for some.  I’ll bring some printed copies of the minor league draft.
  • When you get to Nazareth park in front of the main entrance on E 57th St. Someone will be manning the door to let you in. Address is 475 E 57th St
If you have any other questions please bring them up now so we can have everything straightened out before Saturday.

Do Not Enter Draft Room!

I inadvertently clicked the start button in then immediately paused it. This happened to me in our football league. I had to submit a request to reset it. Please do not enter the draft room until you see the countdown resume on the home page.

Protected rosters are in

All protected lists are in. Please check your roster carefully and report any mistakes ASAP.  Keeper Lists
I also entered the rosters in the CBS site.  Please check your keepers VERY carefully.  It’s very important the CBS site is set up right for the draft.  Check players, salaries, position eligibility, etc.  You can also move players into different positions if you want a different arrangement to start the draft.  Please DO NOT make any corrections on your own. If you see an error report it to me ASAP.  There are no minor leaguers in CBS yet.  Use the above link to check for protected minor leaguers.
FYI – I’ll be sending out an important update regarding our stat service for 2022.  But first lets get the rosters nailed down.
